NarrationCue Support

NarrationCue is a voice-following manuscript reader for audiobook narrators.

Getting started

  1. Import a DOCX, DOC, RTF/RTFD, TXT or PDF manuscript.
  2. Choose Width, English-language recognition and Mic sensitivity if needed.
  3. Press Listen and begin reading.

Permissions

NarrationCue requires Microphone and Speech Recognition permission. These can be reviewed in System Settings > Privacy & Security.

Importing

Standard text documents and PDFs import directly. Scanned PDFs use local text recognition, and the import note names the pages that were read this way, so those pages can be briefly checked for names and unusual words.

Markup in a PDF comes in with it: highlights, underlines, strikethroughs, lines drawn with a line tool (shown as underlines or "/" pause marks) and typed notes or comments (shown in [brackets]). Notes, pause marks and struck-out words are shown but skipped by the cue. Freehand pen marks and handwriting are not imported. If a PDF was flattened or printed to a new PDF, highlights drawn onto the page usually still come in with their colors, but its other markup does not.

PDF footnotes are kept: each one moves to just after the paragraph that cites it, set apart in small grey italics, and is skipped by the cue.

Trial & purchasing

NarrationCue is free to download and includes a full-featured 14-day trial. After the trial, existing manuscripts remain fully available, but importing new manuscripts requires unlocking the app with a one-time purchase or a monthly subscription, available from within the app.
